Going With The Flow

Sometimes Uncertainty Makes for Better Adventures

Sometimes, I have this weird feeling that I forget where I am. It happened to me recently. I’d spent about four hours researching mountains to climb. When I finally closed my notebook, I got myself thinking, “Where am I again?” It took me a few seconds to scan my brain and go, “Oh, right. I just moved. I’m still in Bolivia”.

I think it’s because I’m always planning something. There’s always another trip or adventure to figure out, and getting lost in it is easy. That’s why I appreciate it when a friend invites me to tag along for something. No planning, no logistics, just saying “yes” and going along for the ride. I’m lucky to keep meeting people who take the lead sometimes and make things easier.

Last week, I went to Animas Valley near La Paz with a friend. I was the one who suggested the trip, but he took over the planning, which was a huge relief because I still needed to find a new place to live by Sunday, as my current home rental was ending. I had never been to Animas Valley before, but I absolutely loved it. Experiencing it without having to worry about logistics made it even more special.

And maybe that’s the real takeaway: Find friends who can handle your chaos… just kidding. It’s more about letting go sometimes and saying “yes” to what life throws your way. For me, it’s effortless to live in the present and enjoy the moment when I have no expectations or clue about what’s coming next.
